Fernbank Receives Funding for ‘Pathways to Success’ Scientific Enrichment Program

 

Newell Rubbermaid grants $50,000 to provide Metro Atlanta students and families with curriculum-based science and cultural learning

 

 Newell Rubbermaid has pledged $50,000 to benefit Fernbank Museum of Natural History’s Pathways to Success: Building Scientific Achievement program.  Comprised of afterschool programs, outdoor learning, laboratory-based classes and family museum visits, the Pathways to Success program encourages students and families to become excited about science and cultural studies while providing youth with educational challenges and the tools to succeed in school and life.

'Wicked' author to speak in Atlanta

ATLANTA -- Gregory Maguire, bestselling author of the Wicked series, will speak at two locations in Atlanta this weekend.

Maguire recently published Out of Oz, the final volume in a Wizard of Oz-inspired series that has infiltrated popular culture in so many ways, including a Broadway smash hit.

This event will benefit "Livable Buckhead," a non-profit organization dedicated to developing and maintaining greenspace and a sustainable community in Buckhead (www.livablebuckhead.org), as well as a scholarship fund for local artists administered by the Georgia Foundation for Public Spaces.

ASO to honor Metro Atlanta music teachers

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will hold an appreciation ceremony for more than 180 Atlanta-area music teachers Friday evening.

The teachers will be recognized at 7 p.m. by ASO president Stanley Romanstein. Afterward, the instructors will attend the evening's concert featuring the music of Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninov and Mussorgsky.

ASO cellist Joel Dallow will also receive a special award from Romanstein for his arts education advocacy work throughout Georgia.

Both the 8 p.m. concert and the preceding reception will take place at the Woodruff Arts Center, 1280 Peachtree Street NE, Midtown.
