Fernbank Museum launches unique app

ATLANTA -- Fernbank Museum of Natural History will launch a new app Friday to give visitors an enhanced experience.

The app uses directional technology to pinpoint a visitor's location in the museum. It then delivers unique content and experiences to the user's phone, Fernbank said in a statement.

"As one of the first museums to use context-aware and location-specific apps, we see a great opportunity to inspire visitors with modern engagement," Fernbank senior vice president and chief programming officer Jennifer Grant Warner said in a statement. "We are creating a more dynamic, engaging, educational and interactive museum by leveraging advanced technology for our visitors."

Features of the app include a guide to help visitors explore Fernbank as a paleontologist, touch-screen interaction, sketchbook activities and Q&A challenges. The app is free and was made possible by a partnership with AT&T, Cisco, Crawford Media Services and Meridian.

To download the app, visit the iTunes store or text FernbankApp to 99000.
