Chipotle offers BOGO special for teachers

ATLANTA -- Chipotle Mexican Grill is celebrating Teacher Appreciation Day by offering buy-one-get-one menu items for educators.

On Tuesday, May 7, a teacher who shows a valid school ID at any U.S. Chipotle restaurant will receive a free burrito, burrito bowl, salad or order of tacos when they buy another menu item.

The promotion is available from 4 p.m. to close.

"We are changing the way people think about and eat fast food. This means going beyond our commitment to better food from more sustainable ingredients and working hard to engrain our restaurants in the communities that they serve," Chipotle communications director Chris Arnold said in a statement. "Connecting with educators and other key community groups is part of who we are, and we're always happy when our work makes an impact upon the communities where we operate."

Four Metro Atlanta Caribou Coffee stores closing April 14

ATLANTA -- Coffee retailer Caribou Coffee said Monday they were closing four locations in metro Atlanta on April 14 as part of a larger set of store closings.

The company said it will close 80 locations nationally, and convert another 88 locations to Peet's Coffee locations, including the company's remaining nine stores in metro Atlanta.

The local stores that will be closing will be the locations on North Druid Hills Road, the Norcross store on Peachtree Parkway, and both Marietta locations -- on Powers Ferry Road and on Johnson Ferry Road.

The chain, America's second largest coffee chain behind Starbucks, was acquired in December 2012 by Joh. A. Benckiser, the German company which also recently acquired the West Coast coffee chain Peet's.

Chick-fil-A Daddy-Daughter Date Night returns in 2013

ATLANTA -- Chick-fil-A's wildly popular Daddy-Daughter Date Night will return in February.

More than 100 Atlanta- and Athens-area Chick-fil-A restaurants will host the event on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Every couple in attendance will receive an activity sheet with conversation topics and a booklet called "Continuing the Conversation," which gives the dads and daughters suggestions for getting to know each other better.

"One of Chick-fil-A's goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we serve," Chick-fil-A area marketing director Robin Lomax said in a statement. "We understand the importance of father-daughter relationships and want to encourage dads to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy their daughters' company over a meal and have fun."

EMORY, Ga. -- Atlanta's Emory Point has a new dining spot as Bonefish Grill opened its doors last night at 1540 Avenue Place, Suite B-240.  The ZAGAT award-winning, polished casual restaurant brings its wood-grilled fish, seafood and chops, sauces and indulgent desserts to Emory residents.  Bonefish couples food with a welcoming bar that features an array of cocktails, extensive craft beer selections, and an adventurous wine list.

To celebrate its opening with the local community, Bonefish Grill selected Friends of Music at Emory as a charity beneficiary and donated $5,000 to the organization.  Friends of Music board members, donors and Emory neighbors were invited to a special Grand Opening event on Dec. 8 to enjoy a sampling of the new restaurant's fresh seafood, cocktails, and ambiance.  The evening raised an additional $3,800 for Friends of Music at Emory through a silent auction and the generosity of donors in attendance.

Alon’s Bakery and Market to Participate in International Bakery Open House

ATLANTA -- Alon’s Bakery and Market in Atlanta is one of 55 bakeries participating in The Bread Bakers Guild of America’s 2nd Annual International Bakery Open House on Saturday, October 20.  Guild member bakeries in 27 US states and 3 Canadian provinces will take part in the open house, which is part of The Guild’s 2012 event series, The Cereal Series: Going With the Grain.

The Guild-Wide Bakery Open House was conceived as a way to bring communities to their bakeries, as well as to champion the cause for locally made bread.

Both locations of Alo’s Bakery and Market are participating in the open house. From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Dunwoody location, guests can watch as Owner Alon Balshan bakes flatbread and focaccia in the wood-burning oven and enjoy a tasting of flatbreads, cheese and hummus. Cookies and beverages will also be available to sample during the day.  From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

ATLANTA -- On Sunday, July 22 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., JCT. Kitchen & Bar is hosting an event to celebrate some of  the South’s best chefs, farmers and mixologists, who will join forces to benefit Georgia Organics in the fourth annual JCT. Kitchen Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival.

Tickets are now on sale and cost $60 per person ($50 for Georgia Organics members). Beginning June 15, tickets will cost $70 per person. Tickets can be purchased online through Xorbia. A total of 1,400 tickets will be available for attendees. Last year’s festival raised close to $40,000 for Georgia Organics.
